De voertaal van deze bijeenkomst is Engels, daarom is onderstaande informatie over het programma ook in het Engels.

The heads of state of 193 members of the United Nations adopted 17 ambitious Sustainable Development Goals in September 2015. By 2030, the aim is to end poverty, hunger, drought, climate change and to improve health, education, gender balance, jobs, innovation, equality, biodiversity, peace and partnership.

In July 2016 during a High Level Political Forum in New York the global report SDG Index & Dashboards was presented. It provides a detailed analysis and benchmark of the current situation in countries compared to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. On average, the Netherlands ranks an 8th position out of 149 countries. We are leading on certain issues and score average on others.

The report is was written by the Bertelsmann Stiftung in cooperation with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network. Aart Jan de Geus, former minister of Social Affairs & Employment and CEO of the Bertelsmann Stiftung, will be in the Netherlands on Wednesday October 12th. He will inform us about the ins and outs of the report during a keynote lecture at 16.30 o’ clock.

Hugo von Meijenfeldt, coördinator of the national implementation of the global goals in the Netherlands, will respond. He will speak about the chances this report provides and how we will follow up on these. There is ample room for an in-depth discussion on the report, the score of the Netherlands and the national approach to the implementation of the targets. This discussion will be moderated by Jacqueline Cramer, strategic adviser at the Utrecht Sustainability Institute and former Minister of Housing. Spatial Planning and the Environment.
